For 2019 I thought I would join 19 other Abbott colleagues to do the national Three Peak Challenge. It’ll be fun they said...
Just a very long walk with a few bumps in the way... Doesn’t seem that bad!
All such notions quickly dissipated when listening to our guide (who’s off to walk up Everest in a couple of weeks) talk of the need for proper equipment and fitness training. He must know what he’s talking about, I thought and decided to pay attention!
The challenge itself is, as the name suggests, to hike up the 3 highest peaks in the UK: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike (in the dark!) and Snowdon as quickly as possible and within 24 hours (so only sleeping on the coach whilst the clock ticks away). That’s 23 miles in 3 stages and with a total ascent of over 10,000ft!! I’d better get some proper boots!
When I learned that we would be raising money for the Make a Wish foundation, I was totally committed. The charity touched our family when our eldest was in hospital. The tv units made available by the charity provided a much needed distraction from the harsh reality of the long recovery from brain surgery
Any contribution you could make to this wonderful cause would mean a lot to me and I know would be gratefully received by the charity and more kids in hospitals could be helped to feel that little better, if only just for a brief moment... and who knows, that might just make a difference in their fight!
Make-A-Wish UK grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
Granting their wish provides seriously ill children with hope for the future, strength to cope and resilience to fight their condition. They’re given quality time away from the daily realities of living with their condition and given the chance to make magical memories they can treasure forever – whatever their future may hold.
We want to transform the lives of 1,000 children this year by granting their One True Wish
