Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have always led a very active life being a Royal Marine for 6 years and a Firefighter for 29 years. In Oct 2010 I had hoped to climb Mera Peak (6476m) in the Himalayas in order to raise money for the Cancer Care and Treatment Centre in memory of my son Cameron. However just a few months before the climb I had major spinal surgery and was forced to postpone the trip until 2011. I made a full recovery and with the help of Ollie, a personal trainer, I was in superb physical condition and was waiting for the weather window in October in order to make the ascent when I had a heart attack and subsequent large strokes. My family were told I wouldn't make it. I spent 6 weeks in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn where I received expert care from everyone, including the A&E and Critical Care Units. For 5 of these weeks I was on West Raynham Ward, the Stroke Unit, where I received excellent support from this dedicated and friendly team and without whom I would not have been making such a remarkable recovery. I would therefore like to raise funds for the Stroke Unit as a way of saying thank you and knowing that my small contribution may help someone else who is unfortunate enough to suffer from a stroke.

I know times are difficult but if you can give just a little it will all help and for the team to reach their combined target it would be absolutely fantastic. All money donated on this page will go to West Raynham Stroke Unit, Patients and Equipment Fund, account number 42774.

If you would prefer to donate to the Cancer Care and Treatment Centre please see Carole's page or if you would like to donate to the Fire Fighter's Charity please see Hayley's page.

Thank you for your support.

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!

Just been told that after discussing with the consultant the doc can no longer sign the company certificate required for the jump due to the revised wording of it.

So as not to disappoint my sponsors I am going to climb Pen-y-ghent instead. Pen-y-ghent is one of the famed "3 Peaks" of Yorkshire and stands at just over 2200ft. My intention is to continue to climb the remaining 2 peaks - Ingleborough and Whernside if the legs will allow it - all in the same week. I am sure you will understand.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
