Red2Red - Moscow to St Petersburg
What is Red2Red?
Five years ago, I convinced a few of my friends to join me on a cycle trek across Central Europe from Budapest to Bucharest, which prompted the name “B2B”. This trend for cycle trips with daft names has continued (Peckham to Paris (P2P) for instance), culminating two years ago in a monumental adventure through Central America (San2San - San Jose, Costa Rica to San Salvador, El Salvador).
Now the memories of agonising mountain climbs, military coups and hurricane Ida have faded, we are back for another epic challenge, this time across Western Russia; Red Square, Moscow, to the birthplace of the Red Revolution, St Petersburg... Red2Red is born.
950km in 5 1/2 days
We will set off from Red Square on Tuesday 30th August, arriving in St Petersburg 5 1/2 days and 950km later, on Sunday 4th September.
As Red2Red is a self-organised and self-funded ride, it is not only the distances that will be challenging, we also need to carry everything we need for the trip in our panniers (the clothes vs energy bar tradeoff), learn a new alphabet and avoid the temptation of Russia’s most famous export... vodka.
The most important bit – St. Rocco’s Hospice
St. Rocco’s Hospice is a fantastic charity providing two invaluable services; it offers care facilities to those suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses and it is a great source of support for their families, carers and friends.
The Hospice is open to the young and old, providing its patients with a haven of refuge and hospitality, allowing them to enjoy their remaining span of life in peace, comfort and dignity.
St. Rocco’s is a charity close to my family, as my Mum has worked there for over 15 years, and any sponsorship is very much appreciated.
Many thanks for your support.
