Right To Play UK - Edinburgh To London Cycle ride 2009 · 17 August 2009 ·

Right To Play protects, educates & empowers children to rise above adversity. Using the power of play we help them stay in school, withstand exploitation, prevent disease and heal from war and abuse. We enable them to make positive choices, creating better futures for themselves and their societies.

Story

Thanks for visiting my (Alex Titchmarsh's) fundraising page, for the London to Edinburgh bike ride.

Your pledge will help children on Right To Play's programmes around the world. We use sport and play to provide basic education to 720,000 children in 23 countries each week; to raise awareness of health issues such as HIV and malaria prevention; to promote peace and tolerance; and to give children the life skills and confidence necessary to make the most of their lives.

We are some of the 200 intrepid cyclists to Right To Play on a glorious tour from Edinburgh to London. Leaving from under the castle in one capital and arriving outside of Buckingham Palace in another, this 6 day trip will take us over hills, along coasts and through national parks. Even if you are experienced, this promises to be a fantastic challenge.

Day 1: We will leave from Edinburgh Castle, roll over the hills on our way to Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
Day 2: Leaving Berwick with the wind in our hair, we will enjoy a relaxed seaside ride, over the border and along the Northumberland coast to Newcastle.
Day 3: The beautiful Moorlands in the Pennines await, idyllically flanking our cycle to Leeds. We’re half way!
Day 4: Good old English country roads will take us through national parks on the way from Leeds to Nottingham.
Day 5: The penultimate and longest day of the ride. Now worries, it’s all down hill (south) as we glide through the East Midlands to the stunning university town of Oxford.
Day 6: We’ll hopefully joined by Mark Cavendish for the final leg of glory from Oxford and London where Buckingham palace, our finishing line, will meet us, greet us and make us proud of our fantastic achievement. Then it’s on to the post-cycle party…
