Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am doing this swim for 2 reasons-
Firstly, I love these physical challenges and this swim will really make me work for it. Hopefully it will give me the confidence in going for bigger and longer swims in the future :)
Secondly, this charity is close to my heart. I was born with cleft lip and palate but because I live in a rich developed country the NHS performed wonders to fix my mouth up as a baby and again as a child.
However there are over a million children from poor countries who do not have access to a simple operation that would change their lives. These children (who forever have this facial disfigurement) have no choice but to live a life of being the 'outsider' (if they haven't already been killed, such as in Uganda) or sometimes being adandoned and not allowed to go to school, let alone struggling with the more practical issues of eating and speaking!
The fairly quick surgery that Smile Train provides costs £150 per child. This may seem a lot of money but, as I am so lucky to have had the treatment, I feel passionate and a moral duty about helping other children to have a better chance in life.
So if you can afford to, I would really appreciate it if you could give a donation, however big or small, to help me get close to my target of helping change 2 kids' lives.
Thank you very much,
Alex White
