Story

Thank you for visiting my Justgiving page. I am running the Fleet Half Marathon in aid of the charity SCCWID (SOPHIES CAMPAIGN FOR THE CHILDREN'S WARD FOR INTERESTING THINGS TO DO) which is very close to my heart.

SCCWID is part of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Trust and was set up by a great friend of mine Sophie Watson, in 1997, aged 14, when she was about to embark on several major operations and many courses of chemotherapy. Her aim was to cheer up the Children's Ward and create an atmosophere that would brighten up the lives of the children who were fighting cancer.

Despite a courageous battle Sophie died in January 2000 however her legacy lives on, and the charity is now run by her mother Selina. Through the generosity of so many the charity revamped the Children's Ward and went on to equip the teen unit in the New Oxford Children's Hospital. The unit treats children with a range of conditions including childhood cancer, neurological disorders and heart disease and is always in need of additional support and equipment which couldn't always be provided without a charity like SCCWID.

http://www.sccwid.com/about.htm
