I am joining with a number of other parents and children from Lady Eleanor Holles and Hampton school to raise money for this children's hospice.  Until last year I had never had any dealings with any hospice but my short experience of my mother's last days impressed upon me how valuable they are.  

Having not rowed properly for some years, training for this marathon test of endurance has not been without the odd injury or two but taking with me some ibuprofen, the odd ice-pack and a stack of jelly-babies to counter straining tendons/muscles/limbs etc. and general exhaustion.

I am doing this in memory of my mum,  Janet Healy, who came to watch me when I first got into a rowing boat having not sat in one for over 25 years.  

Between those of us taking part we are hoping to raise enough to fund a nurse for a year - which would be a great achievement.
