Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon 2017 · 8 October 2017 ·

We’re the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. That’s why we help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My resolution for 2017 was to become fitter and more lean, so when the occasion arose to run a half marathon and simultaneously do something good for children who have a difficult life, I accepted
the challenge. I didn’t question for a second if I could do it or how difficult and painful it would be, despite the fact approximately 2 years ago I was not able to run 1k without stopping and walking for another 1k.

I've wanted to run a half marathon for many years, but the motivation was never there nor the right people to support me on this difficult path. Lucky enough, those people who basically taught me how to run and who pushed me over the last 2 years to train more, have agreed to join my challenge as well (after a lot of insistence from me) and here we
are. The running club we founded as a joke 2 years ago, has decided to do it together, as a team. We have put a training plan in place and during the last 2 weeks we have intensively trained and gradually got better at running and I even managed my first 15k last Sunday.

Seems easy just to get out there and do it, but in reality there is a lot of focus, time and tears invested. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would be able to run more than 5k and when I finished my first run (13.5k) in February 2016, I actually cried at the finish line, because OMG, I actually did it and I couldn’t believe it. It was a good feeling and the starting point of consistent running.

Now, I am definitely focused to finish the Royal Parks Half
Marathon and raise as much money as I can on behalf of NSPCC. I know now everything is possible, you just need the right reason for it. And my reason is to be part of a change, a change for an unlucky child, because “every child deserves the best possible chance to rebuild their life after abuse”. So my dear friends, please help me raise as much money as I can, I know every penny will be greatly appreciated and will help a little bit to rebuild the future of an abused child
.
