Hello extra-ordinary friends and family,

I am raising money with Amber Sainsbury's charity DRAMATIC NEED to go to Rwanda to work with children and young adults in June 2010, doing Drama workshops. And I am hoping that you will be able to support me. These workshops allow the participants the opportunity to tell their own stories and to explore feelings in a safe, enjoyable and brand new environment - often these are children who have had incredibly hard childhoods and the opportunity to express that to whatever degree has a huge impact on their self esteem and their social development.

Dramatic Need is a UK-based charity that sends international volunteers from the creative arts (such as actors, artists and musicians) to South Africa to host workshops with children living in rural and impoverished communities.   
 
The Dramatic Need programme is very much a cultural exchange, with the impetus on us volunteers learning as much as the children we are working with. Dramatic Need is not 'importing' theatre, music and art to South Africa or Rwanda, but simply enabling children who may have very little in life, to utilise and take ownership of their own talents and abilities. In doing so, we will be helping to foster the children's self-confidence and ability to express their emotions.
