CHARITY NIGHT A MASSIVE SUCCESS - COMPLETED

Our charity night at Stobart Stadium on 17th Sept was a massive success, with over 300 people in attendance.  Roy Basnett from Wire FM, our excellent compere for the evening, got the night underway.  We had representatives from Whiston Hospital and the Mayor and Mayoress who kindly provided a speech, thanking us for raising money for such a worthwhile local cause.  Our Auction proved a massive success and bidding on some of our superb prizes exceeded our expectations.  Max Pressure was the comedian for the night and local band The Odds finished off an excellent night.  Anita and I would like to thank everyone who attended and to all those that donated prizes & time to make the night such a success.  We raised approximately £13,500 which gets us nearer to our £30k total.  We received great feedback on the night with everyone saying they had a fantastic night.  Our next up and coming event is to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro in February in 2012 If anyone would still like to donate they can do so by visiting our website www.alfieflynnmullen.org

ROYAL MAIL RIBBLE WALK - COMPLETED

On 3rd September a group of Royal Mail employees, friends and family, Sally the Lead Nurse from Whiston Paediatric dept and friend all took part in walking a 29 mile section of the Ribble Way. With a 6am start on a grim looking morning the weather was mainly kind to start with though the walking took its toll. We started at Brungerley Bridge and finished in Horton In Ribblesdale. At about the half way point the weather turned and so did the language with a few expletives along the way. The local cow herds took to much of a liking and kept us on our toes! It was a great achievement to complete and big thanks to the support team who were invaluable on the day.  All monies raised will be split between Whiston Hospital Kids department and Christies Hospital. Numbers still TBC

3 PEAK CHALLENGE 12TH AUGUST 2011 - COMPLETED

Well we cracked the 3 Peak Challenge starting at 16:00 on Friday 12 August 2011, we started at the Glen Nevis Tavern at the foot of Ben Nevis.  Things looked bleak at the start, the clouds were dark and black and the wind was starting to pick up, people coming off the hill told us it had taken them between 6 & 8 hours which and that it was freezing up top!! We started off at a steady pace and made good progress up "The Beast" about half way up we were amongst the cloud, and the rain was upon us which was relentless! It was a case of head down and push on! Visibility was grim at the top and it was a case of touching the top and straight back down! Rio was up and down in 4 hrs flat which is a top time,  We were all up and down within the 5 hour guidelines and were all grateful of the top feed we got off our support team at the bottom.  A  6h gruelling drive awaited us en route to Scafell at which we arrived at 3am, with the weather not being too kind! Unfortunatley it was rain from top to bottom, the gentle trickle of a stream we crossed in our training was now  fast flowing rdue to the rain and we had to pick the best spot to cross. Rio was 1st past the post again and completed in 3hrs 30 mins, we all finished in under the 4 hr recommended time. Bacon butties and coffee were waiting for our arrival which were much appreciated. We set off for Snowdon knowing we were almost done, a final push and we had cracked it.  Some 5 hrs later we arrived at Pen Y Pass car park and started our final ascent of the challenge.  Thankfully the weather in Wales was good to us and we cracked on up the hill. We all finished in under 4 hours some completing in under 3 hrs which was a top time for the last one! Our support team was superb and we couldnt have done it without them.  A big thanks to Prescot Self Drive who lent us the minibus! It was a top challenge that we were all made up to complete, though I doubt anyone will be going back for seconds! Hopefully Guffies caught up on his sleepless night from the hostel, I personally dont fancy getting back on a minibus anytime soon!  Well done to the Mountain Slayers!!! Thanks to everyone who has donated in conjucntion with this challenge!  Well done to Jason & Rio Mullen, Keith Mullen Colin McEvoy, Ste Jones, Eric Ireland, Paul McGuffy, Del Niloban & Alan Morton. Drivers: Nick Sparks & Anthony Mullen.
