My story

I did it!!!

Driving through fog to the allotted car park at 9am on Saturday morning I wondered whether the abseil would go ahead - maybe fog blocking out the view below would be a good thing?

However, the sun broke through as we arrived - a gaggle of charity T-shirted strangers all beginning to look a little nervous and wondering why they'd signed up for this.

One by one we were kitted up and led to the edge by incredibly patient and calm Mark Bessell who instructed us in what to do and sent us on our way.

Terrifying.

That moment when you have to lean out over the edge hanging on to a pretty narrow looking piece of rope, seemingly miles above the ground below.  This bit was not exactly fun.

Once I'd taken my first couple of steps however, it was great!  Really easy (I guess we were on a beginners bit of cliff) and pretty quick too - so much so that I ran back up for another go!

HUGE thanks to all who have so generously sponsored me (on and off this page).  Your money will be put to great use.  For anyone who would still like to contribute ... go ahead!  This page will remain open for a couple of months.

Thank you for visiting my page!!

As you know, I'm a huge animal supporter and I was lucky enough to adopt Milo, I one of my past, precious ferrets from Bath Cats and Dogs Home.  They are an amazing organisation who are 100% dependent on charitable donations and yet still maintain a complete non-destruction policy.

To support them at this busy time when the credit crunch is having a terrible affect on pet owners I'll be abseiling down the Avon Gorge (beside the Portway in Bristol).  I haven't done an abseil before (hence jumping at this chance) but have had a brief instruction in indoor climbing.  That went well except for dealing with edges - but I'm sure it will be fine...!!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe as they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.  So please dig deep and donate now.

Thanks very much,
Ali
