Story
Alice was born four weeks early at Kingston Hospital. For an unknown reason, she wasn't the size that she was supposed to be at that age and we were advised that she would grow better outside the womb.
As a result, she was only 1,995 kilos at birth. She was surprisingly healthy for a baby that size and stayed with us the first 12 hours. But as her blood sugar levels would not stabilise, she was taken to the neonatal unit.
It was emotionally very difficult for Ben and I to see her there at the unit with a tube through her nose and regular blood tests taken. Soon however, we realised that she was getting fantastic care and the doctors and nurses did an amazing job.
Alice could leave the neonatal unit after 24 hours and is perfectly well ever since.
We were very impressed and humbled by the care and attention that Alice received at the Kingston Neonatal unit and witnessed several babies that received much more complex treatment.
As a way of thanking the staff and to support the Neonatal unit at Kingston Hospital, we would like to ask our friends and family that will celebrate Alice's baptism with us, and were planning to bring a present, to instead make a donation to the Born Too Soon Fund.
