Story
Last year I had the opportunity to do some research for Freedom from Torture. I had no idea when I started my research what a profound impact the organisation and their work would have on me.
Freedom from Torture, formerly the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, has been working for 25 years to provide direct clinical services to survivors of torture who arrive in the UK, as well as striving to protect and promote their rights. Since its inception, over 50,000 individuals have been referred for help. Thanks to the dedication of staff and volunteers – as well as scores of passionate supporters and funders – thousands of torture survivors have been able to rebuild their lives in incredibly difficult circumstances.
I saw first hand the amazing work this organisation does, but also became acutely aware of the fact that their fantastic services are vastly oversubscribed and consequently many survivors of torture fail to receive this vital support. Many of their clients have experienced unspeakable things that many people would never even wish to contemplate. Their struggle does not just stop once they arrive in the UK, where they are confronted by poverty, isolation and in the worst cases destitution.
So please dig deep and help me support this fantastic charity who help people rebuild their lives everyday through their unwavering support and commitment.
