Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In a few days I'm heading back to the Thai Burma border to help give some basic medical training to Burmese village medics. It's the second time I've been back to teach on this training course, and my fourth time in Mae Sot - last time I even had Burmese lessons, although I'll be teaching through translation!
Once upon a time Burma was known as the Ricebowl of Asia because it was so rich in resources. Decades of military dictatorship has reduced most of the people to poverty, and the ethnic minority groups are persecuted and displaced from their villages, with only minimal medical assistance available to them.
Over the next 3 months a group of us will be teaching 50 or so medics in two locations to treat the commonest diseases they'll encounter when they go home. Many of those diseases are ones we barely think about here because we pretty much eliminated them decades ago - but they're thriving in the poverty there.
I'll be paying my own transport and living expenses - any support donated here will directly towards the students' living and study expenses and will be very much appreciated both by them and by the people they will be looking after when they return home.
Thank you very very very much, and much love
Alison
