Story
Of all the things you could do with your beautiful (and perhaps
rainy, if you're my side of the pond) spring day, you chose to click on
my page. To show my appreciation, I'll make this short and sweet!
A
quick update on my life since I moved to London in September to start a
two-year MSc at the LSE in Global Media and Communications: blissfully
stimulating chaos. The lectures, the theories, the speakers, the
events--oh, and then there's living in central London! I tend to forget
that part.
I've also, however, been keen to discover ways I
can actually use all of these concepts and ideas. I first heard of PANOS
through my department and was hired to do some content analysis for a
project they're doing about reporting sexual health issues in
Bangladeshi news print. The organization in general basically uses media
for global development, in the form of research, teaching,
publications, etc. The work PANOS does is impressive and vast (check it:
http://www.panos.org.uk/) and embodies exactly why I decided to pursue a
career in media.
So when I spotted a notice on their website
inviting fundraisers to run on their team in the BUPA 10k, I decided it
was the perfect opportunity to both support something I'm passionate
about and conquer my fear of road races. (It'll also get me out of the
library once and awhile...)
I only have two months to reach my
target amount, (and I'd ideally like to leave my student loan cheques
out of this!) so any small (or impulsively large!) donation would be
very much appreciated!
Love always, Alison
