Donating my hair (and shaving my head too, because why not!) · 20 August 2015

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

I've wanted to change my hair radically for a little while and taking my synthetic dreads out is the perfect time since I can't untangle my stubborn-ass roots. I didn't think there were any hair donation charities that accepted previously bleached hair, but lo and behold I was wrong!

Al managed to convince me (and now I really actually love the idea) to shave my head. It's only hair, it'll grow back, and at least I can say I've done it once! And it's also a super awesome cause, is it not?

So Thursday morning I will be going out to buy some black hair dye (they accept previously bleached and dyed hair but it has to be a natural colour), and dying my hair. That evening, when Al returns home, we will be carefully cutting off my braid and packaging it up ready for the Little Princess Trust, then he will be shaving my head bald.

I was just going to do this because; then I found out I could donate the length of my hair, then I thought, I know a few people raising money this way so I may as well raise a few pennies for the Little Princess Trust as well as donating my hair (they buy in wigs too, so that the children have the best and widest choice of wig to choose from).

TL;DR I'm going to dye my hair black, cut my braid off, then Al is going to shave me bald. This would have happened either way; but this way I get to help a really neat cause.
