Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Age-related Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in the Western World.  We are an aging population and if you don't already know someone who suffers from this debilitating condition, in time, you will.   My mothersuffers from ARMD and it is thanks to the wonderful treatment that she has received under Professor Lotery's supervision that her eyesight remains stable.  Professor Lotery's research is funded with the help of Gift of Sight.  My mother is an independent, healthy and active woman who reads voraciously, and loves her family and art.  The realization that she may lose her independence, ability to read and be unable to see her grand-children is a harrowing thought. We hope that in time, gene therapy will prove a successful alternative to the unpleasant treatment she and millions of others have to undergo in an attempt to preserve their sight.
