Story
Oliver Louis James was born on the 6th October 2011 at 17:25 at the Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford. He weighed 1.065kg (2lb 6oz). His arrival was very quick and very unexpected, his parents were expecting him around the 9th January 2012! It became apparent early on that he needed specialist help, so at 5 hours old, Ollie was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Peters Hospital. It was a further 15 hours before Ollie and his parents were reunited as a family.
Because of donations already made to this fund, the unit has its own accommodation for parents, including a kitchen/lounge where parents can take 5 mins to make a coffee or just be alone with their thoughts. Sarah and Greg were allowed to stay on the unit so that they could be with Ollie, this meant so much to them as there was no way they could have thought of leaving him. Being able to stay ensured they could take it in turns to sit with him whilst the other one slept.
Ollie spent 81 days in NICU and during this time fought off infections, endured numerous blood tranfusions, brain scans, heart scans, eye & hearing tests to name but a few. Sarah and Greg were, and still are, in awe of his strength and determination - his feisty little attitude served him well.
During their time in NICU they had the pleasure of meeting the most hardworking, thoughtful and caring team of Consultants, Doctors & Nurses. Not only did they take such wonderful care of Ollie, but they made sure Sarah and Greg were ok. They took time to answer questions, hugged them when they had bad days and laughed with them when they had good days.
