Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It will probably come as no surprise that I am doing another marathon. This time I am raising money for a charity that supports people with Postnatal Depression. This is a recognised and treatable condition which affects approximately one in five mothers and approximately one in ten fathers.
I have been inspired to raise money by a lady called Liz Wise. Liz is the Director of Counselling at Cedar House Support Group and does all of her work with them voluntarily. Liz is a specialist PND counsellor who has been supporting mothers and facilitating support groups for eighteen years. Having had severe PND after both her children, she knows what a difference groups like this can make to a mother’s recovery.
Postnatal depression is a very debilitating illness and comes at a time when a woman is supposedly meant to be happy and content, not depressed, anxious and perhaps unable to enjoy her new baby. PND and depression in general affects far more people than will ever be recorded, most suffer in silence, some take drastic measures to remove themselves from the situation and sadly some feel that without any glimmer of hope the only answer is suicide.
The Cedar House Support Group is a place where women can meet other people who feel the same as them. It offers the opportunity for a person to talk to other women who are going through the same roller coaster of emotions as them, and to be able to get support and offer support to others.
This is a really worthy cause. All funds raised will help this group to continue doing this great work, and offer support to people who suffer with PND. Please give what you can.
Thanks
Amanda
