Big Fun Run - Birmingham 5k 2012 · 19 August 2012 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in August 2011; it was a shattering blow for me - I have just trudged along in life not really realising what I was putting into my body; not exercising and generally just getting bigger and bigger in weight and getting more and more depressed about how I felt and how I looked - I had the attitutde 'I'll lose weight and move more tomorrow'. What I didn't realise is that Diabetes doesn't pick and choose, and I didn't realise just how much this condition was going to "change" my life; and those around me.
It has been a massive learning curve and I know its a life-long condition that I will need to manage but I know if I work with my GP; DN and other medical professionals I can lead a long, healthy and complication free life - that's my goal.
I'm not after a fancy career; bigger house; designer clothes - I want to feel healthier; happier and that I have a purpose.
I have made some fantastic friends on the Diabetes UK website, those who know what living with diabetes and caring for those with diabetes is like.
I wouldn't have achieved what I have today, lost over 3 1/2 stone in weight; am fitter than ever and I'm even learning to swim without the love and support of my family - this run is for them and those with diabetes.
Diabetes doesn't discriminate...
Just seeing me in a pair of shorts is going to be a treat...
