Story

Hi and thank you for looking at my sponsorship page for “Northern Causeway” Day Centre in Berwick Upon Tweed.

Those of you who know me well will remember that sadly in February 2004 I lost my mum following her battle with bipolar disorder, which she had for many years. It’s been 6 years now since she passed away and it was recently her 66th birthday! It was on her birthday I reminisced of all the happy times we had and decided it was high time I got off my bottom and did something to raise money again to support a wonderful charity that for many years supported my mum.

I would like to ask that you consider sponsoring me to raise money for what I feel is such a valuable charity. “Northern Causeway” day centre is located in Berwick Upon Tweed and offers help and support to many of its users from all corners of Northumberland. Their work is such a valuable contribution in supporting people with illnesses such as my mums and I whole-heartedly believe that without small centres such as this many people in the community would suffer without their help and support. I know first hand of the benefits of this day centre and feel that if it were not there I would not have had anywhere near as many happy years spent with my mum as I did.

I am planning to do a 25 mile hike across the Cheviots in Northumberland on Saturday 28th August 2010 (for details see www.cheviotschallenge.org.uk) which will take about 9 hours (or probably more at my snail’s pace!) and will no doubt be hard work as although I like to do a few step classes a week it will still be tough going! (so you will be getting your moneys worth… and also my partner Andy will be accompanying me so you get 4 tired legs for the price of 2!). All money raised will go directly to the day centre and be used to help part fund a trip the day centre users to visit a Highland Wildlife Park in Kingussie in Scotland accompanied by the support workers of the centre. I remember so well when my mum was alive just how valuable these kind of trips were in what can be very hard times whilst dealing with the everyday problems associated with having mental health illnesses.

I understand there are so many charities these days needing valuable funding and this is such a small and unknown charity to some of you… but I can assure you that all the proceeds raised will go directly to the charity and will be a fantastic help.

I hope you can help me with this… no matter how little you can afford to give it will count. The day centre users and myself will be so grateful!

With Wholehearted Thanks

Amanda & Northern Causeway Day Centre xx
