Jess & Amber are cycling over 300km from London to Paris. We are raising as much as we can for Bowel Cancer UK - a cause which means a lot to us & here's why.....
Did you know:
* bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK?
* more than 16,250 people in the UK die each year from bowel cancer (that's someone every 30 minutes)?
* 95% of all diagnoses are in people over the age of 50?
* if diagnosed at the earliest stage, bowel cancer is highly treatable, with a survival rate of more than 90% over five years?
You probably know:
* Jeremy was diagnosed with bowel cancer back in July 2009
* Jeremy's cancer wasn't diagnosed early enough and had spread to his liver making the job of treatment and recovery so much harder
* Jeremy was only 41 when he was diagnosed
* Jeremy has made an amazing recovery but it has not been easy and treating the secondary cancer in the liver made it so much harder to beat
Who can help:
* Bowel Cancer UK aims to save lives by raising awareness of bowel cancer, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice
* survival rates in the UK are amongst the lowest in Europe, with 15% more patients being diagnosed at a later stage of the disease compared with most other European countries
* Bowel Cancer UK works to encourage people to recognise the symptoms of the disease and to act on their concerns so that they have the best chance of survival
What we can do:
* Amber and Jess are hoping to raise as much money as we can to support Bowel Cancer UK's work by cycling from London to Paris on 24-26 June
* We are paying our own entry fees so all the money raised will go to Bowel Cancer UK
* Please support us and help raise our awareness of bowel cancer
Thank you xx
