Story

*** Update: I did it! Well actually I did three gigs in a week. One on International Women's Day, one at the Painted Grin comedy night, and one at the WOW festival at the Southbank Centre... It was fun. I am still fundraising. Please donate! I would love to double my target***

The Story

To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, I am taking part in the Funny Women Charity Challenge. Each year the wonderful organisation takes 10 high profile Women who are not in Comedy and trains them to be comedians. This year it is particularly exciting, as it is Funny Women's 10th Birthday Celebrations and so the event is a big one.

I have found myself with less than two weeks til the night agreeing to stand in for somebody that had to pull out. So I literally have days to raise money for Womankind and think of something funny to say....

Never knowingly funny, I am absolutely terrified at stepping into the challenge. But the beauty of life is often in saying yes to the things that make you want to hide under your duvet for the rest of time. My work has always been about pushing outside the boundaries of how we normally see or do something, and so I am embracing the opportunity to do this for myself.

It’s an honour to be able to support Womankind Worldwide in the process, as the work they do is vital in today’s world. Did you know that 1 in 3 women will experience violence in their lifetime or that a woman is more in danger in a conflict zone than a soldier?

If me accepting this challenge and potentially making a massive fool out of myself can raise some money for women organisations around the world, I am happy to have a go, so please donate generously.

You can follow my journey to comedian....?! through my twitter account @amishaghadiali

Thanks, Amisha
