Story

As a lot of you may know over the last year I have been to The Gambia on numerous occasions as a volunteer teacher, I was able to do this through a charity called the Gambian Schools Trust. They are a small educational charity supported entirely by donations, fundraising activities and unpaid volunteers.

They support education in the Gambia by :- Constructing, renovating and operating nursery schools. Providing equipment, furniture and resources to schools in need. Funding teacher training on the Early Child Development programmers. Facilitating international links between UK and Gambian schools supplementing Gambian Government efforts by constructing and equipping libraries in the state school system.

I have seen first hand how the children of The Gambia benefit educationally from all the work the volunteers do and all the resources that are donated. The experiences I had while there were unforgetable and the people I met were amazing, hardworking and dedicated. The next project that the charity are hoping to complete is the extension of Nemasu nursery school to allow another class of children to attend.

In June 2011 I'm going to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money for The Gambian Schools Trust. If you would like to sponser me then please donate on this page and the money will go directly to the charity to help carry on with the all the good work they are doing in the Gambia.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, if you would like any more information about the charity visit www.gambianschools.org.
