Story
<p>Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Yesterday I read a story that broke my heart.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Today, along with my friend Helen Lord, we are committing ourselves to several months of pain in order to raise £2,000 (or hopefully more) to help the International Animal Rescue Organisation continue its life-saving work in protected the wonderful Orang-utans of Borneo.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Both Helen and I admit we are not the most ‘sporty’ of people...in fact our daily exercise routine consists of ‘front door to car and back again several hours later!’<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We both have a penchant for coke (full fat all the way!), pizza (ummm) and anything sweet and chocolaty!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Hence the magnitude of what we are about to do...</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">In August Helen, her husband Danny, myself and my husband Nick (the men are purely there for motivation, eye candy (!!!) and hopefully piggy backs!) will walk 24.6 miles over the Three Peaks in Yorkshire, taking in over 5000 ft of climbing in order to raise £2,000 for the IAR to build their new and much needed Orang-utan Sanctuary in Borneo whilst continuing their truly amazing work of saving and rehabilitating injured or orphaned Orang-utans.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">FACT:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Orang-utans are one of the most endangered species in the world so we need to act NOW to save this truly special animal.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There are reportedly only 60,000 left in the world.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">FACT:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Orang-utans have around 97% identical genetic make-up to humans.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">We are asking you to help protect this wonderful animal by giving generously to this urgent and worthwhile cause.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We humans are singlehandedly destroying this wonderful planet and its animal inhabitants due to all consuming greed and unimaginable cruelty and we must protect what we have left.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">This is the story that broke our hearts and I hope once reading it you will understand why we all have to help in whatever way, large or small, we can.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 54.4pt 10pt 2cm;"><span style="color: #003366;"><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The rainforests of Borneo are slowly being destroyed by humans and along with it the habitats of the Orang-utans.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is a story, as reported in yesterday’s News of the World, about a little family struggling to survive.</span></span></em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 54.4pt 10pt 2cm;"><span style="color: #003366;"><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">With limited food sources in the rainforest, a family of Orang-utans left the safety of the rainforest to go to a small village that were growing fruit.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The humans saw the Orang-utans trying to get food and they set about trying to catch them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The father Orang-utan tried to no avail to protect his little family but he got chased off.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They did, however, manage to catch the mother and her baby.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The pair were tied down with heavy ropes and beaten with sticks whilst having rocks thrown at them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The animals were terrified and the mother did everything she could to protect her precious baby from the unimaginable cruelty they were experiencing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>With very little energy left, the mother was then dragged away from her screaming baby and thrown into a pool of water and held under the water until she passed out.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She was then thrown into a cage unconscious where her baby clung to her with fear.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Once she regained consciousness, the bored humans started up their unrelenting beating of the Orang-utans yet with the little energy the amazing mother had left, she continued to protect her baby from this evil as best she could.</span></span></em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 54.4pt 10pt 2cm;"><span style="color: #003366;"><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Eventually, a vet from the IAR arrived and sedated the distressed and badly injured Orang-utans and rushed them back to the temporary Orang-utan Sanctuary for emergency treatment.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Unfortunately, due to the horrendous injuries the mother sustained, she died 15 minutes later.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, due to what I believe to be the dedication of her mummy and the protection she gave her baby to the end, the baby girl has survived and is now known as Peni.</span></span></em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 54.4pt 10pt 2cm;"><span style="color: #003366;"><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">This little baby Orang-utan (which has 97% of the genetic makeup of you or I) is now a scared and frightened orphan that desperately needs our help.</span></span></em></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">No doubt this story will touch your heart like it did ours so please, please, please give generously to prevent this tragedy from happening again as we cannot even begin to comprehend what this little family went through all for a piece of fruit to feed their hungry baby.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span style="color: #003366;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Thank you so much for all your generosity and for caring.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We will keep you updated throughout the trials and tribulations of our training schedule and also about the amazing work undertaken by the IAR for the Orang-utans of Borneo.</span></span></p>
