WaterAid help the world’s poorest communities to transform their lives with clean water.1 in 10 people don’t have access to safe water and 1 in 3 don’t have access to a decent toilet. We want a world where everyone everywhere has these basic human rights by 2030. Together we can make that happen.
Greenland - the world's largest island, 80% of which is covered in ice and is the world's least densely populated territory. Our trek will involve visiting the shrinking ice sheet (10bn tons of ice melts annually due to climate change). We will then trek across 100km of Arctic tundra over the next 5 days, taking advantage of 22 hours of daylight, to make it back to civilisation and the coast. We will camp on the tundra and carry our gear and supplies on our backs.
Some others facts that highlight the scale of the global water crisis:
2.4bn people don't have access to adequate sanitation
663mn people live without clean drinking water
800 children die every day from disease which is a direct result of lack of safe water
WaterAid works with governments and local organisations to deliver water, sanitation and hygiene to communities that most need it.
