When our son Jacob was a day old he was rushed to Bristol's Children's Hospital due to a blood clot that blocked one of his main arteries. Jacob's left ventricle became severely damaged due to the clot. When he arrived his organs had shut down and he only had half a heart working, we were told he wouldn't survive the next day. 4months on and the team have his organs working again and are all working every hour of every day on improving his heart function which still remains very poor. Jacob's future is still unclear, but what I do know is this; without the amazing people and resources at this amazing hospital, Jacob would not be here today. He has a very long way to go before we know how this will turn out. Either way we need to ensure that this provision continues. There isn't a lot I can do for him right now, but by doing this I hope I can make him proud. The Appeal raised £250,000 to provide a Paediatric Echocardiogram to the unit. This machine diagnosed Jacob and without it it Jacob would not be here now. The hospital is expanding by adding a world-leading and highly specialised Hybrid Cardiac Surgical Theatre. This state of the art new hybrid operating theatre will mean that far more children with heart problems will be able to receive treatment without the need for invasive surgery and in a safer multi-use environment.
