Since 2001 the Oasis Centre has been helping isolated, vulnerable and disadvantaged people to find stability, understand their incredible value and work out their God given potential. Oasis is a place where people become community, community becomes family, and family becomes home!'
My wife, Victoria Armstrong started the exciting work in Gorton, East Manchester, over 18 yrs ago. Her passion and total commitment is to love everyone who comes through Oasis' doors, wherever they're from and whatever their issues. She has an amazing team around her who make a real difference to so many lives in some many ways.
The Centre's work is growing rapidly – as is the need in East Manchester. Last month we saw nearly a thousand visits from people looking for help – some in utter crisis. We offer help with housing and benefits, work experience and employment skills, basic literacy and numeracy courses, and even emergency food and clothing. We do all this with a tiny staff and a team of amazing volunteers. Find out more here: http://oasisgorton.org/what-we-do/
In 2020 we will open a new Centre on a prominent corner of Hyde Road in order to be more accessible, open more hours and help more people. This has been the most extraordinary miracle of God I've ever been involved in as he has bought people, finances and goodwill together over the last few years.
My fourth great passion is running. So i will be taking part in the Wiggle Half Marathon on Sunday the 13th of October and all the money raised will contribute to the ongoing daily running of the new Centre, or in simple terms, it will change lives.
