The Stroke Association - Step out for stroke - South Downs Sussex · 15 May 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

I have decided 2010 is the year to challenge myself and to raise awareness about strokes and the effect they can have. Until recently strokes have received very little attention/ campaigning compared to many other illnesses. Even now information about strokes tends to be around strokes in older age. 10 000 people under the age of 55 suffer a stroke every year - I was one of them. In 2001 I survived 3 strokes.

Although I still have weakness in my right leg and arm I have never been short of determination. My ultimate goal is to do a trek but this 10km walk across the South Downs is my first step. I would appreciate all the support I can get and thanks to my friends who will be walking with me.
