Every year in our region more than 100 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer and most of them visit the Paediatric Oncology Unit at the RVI in Newcastle for treatment. This is more than two children and young people every single week; quite an alarming statistic!   Thanks to the research over the last 25 years and continuous improvement in therapy, almost 75% of these cancers can now be cured

 

This Cycle ride is being completed in memory of a special young lady from Egremont called Danica Maxwell.  Danica had battled brain tumours for 12 months before losing her fight on December 22, her bravery was typified by her own words that were read out at her funeral service, “They say I was a gifted and talented person, but I was just me. I loved my life and always gave 100 per cent. It was short but I had no complaints.’’

 

Please support the ride and perhaps our fundraising can help prevent the loss of another special person.
