Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for both Primrose Hospice and Parkinsons UK.

As you may know, my father David Hewston has recently developed Parkinsons. Parkinsons is a brain condition which has changed my father's life significantly. My father has gone from being confident, fun loving and living life to the full, to being anxious, short of confidence and sometimes struggles to remember. Locally, Parkinsons UK has both helped to support David and the family. On a national basis, Parkinsons UK is Europe's biggest charitable funder of research into Parkinsons.

I am also raising money for a local hospice, Primrose hospice, who are a fantastic local charity and in desperate need of any financial help.

Primrose Hospice was set up in 1987 to provide a community-based palliative day care service for people with cancer and their families, from the point of diagnosis. Initially the Hospice’s remit was to support adults over the age of 18, living at home with life-limiting illnesses. Over the past 28 years the services offered by the Hospice have developed as local needs have been identified and the Hospice prides itself on responding dynamically to these local factors and needs. They are currently caring for patients with a wide range of conditions including cancer, Motor Neurone disease, cardio-vascular disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. We are also increasingly supporting people with multiple life-limiting conditions such as Dementia. The Hospice serves a diverse population of 178,000 people in the districts of Redditch and Bromsgrove in North East Worcestershire and all of their specialist palliative care and family support services are provided free of charge.

As a hospice, they provide free, expert care and support to adults living with life limiting illnesses and their families. They endeavour to improve patients’ quality of life and wellbeing, helping each individual live as fully as they can to the end of their lives, however long that may be. It is their belief that every life matters right up until the moment a person dies and that no one should die in pain when it can be avoided, or alone, if they do not want to, regardless of whether their suffering is physical, emotional or spiritual.

At Primrose Hospice, they care for people with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect, in our Day Hospice, or at home. They support families, including children during a person’s illness and into bereavement. We still have a way to go, too many people in our community are not receiving the care they want or need at the end of their life.Their vision is for everyone facing the end of life, whoever they are and wherever they might be, to have the best possible care and we believe hospice care is critical to achieving this.
