Story
I've never met Adam or any of his family. I came across his story after going on the Post Pals site, as mentioned on Russell Howards Good News. I read his story and decided to send him an e-mail to say hi. But then, I couldn't get him out of my mind, and wondered what else I could do to help. I'm a dad, and the thought of my son being in the same situation as Adam felt unbearable, so I wanted to help if I could. Adam's Dad's blog says more than I could about it:
http:/adamsappeal.blogspot.com
Adam is 6, and has a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as High Risk Neuroblastoma (MYCN Amplified). The 2Simple Trust are administering an appeal to raise approx £300,000 so that Adam can receive life saving treatment in America, treatment that isn't available in the UK.
Many folk have sponsored me for stuff before (Ta very much by the way). I wanted both a different challenge and one that may be worthy of your cash. So, instead of sponsoring me for the Great North Run I'm doing in September, I'd like to ask you to sponsor me for not just that, but the whole of the training that I'll be doing to get fit for it. My training runs total 262 miles - the equivalent of 10 marathons, across 16 weeks. Not quite Eddie Izzard, I agree, but tough enough for a stocky fat lad with a dodgy achilles.
That way, I can't not do the training, and I'll not run the risk of tearing my achilles tendon (the one that David Beckham did, but I did it before crutches were a fashion accessory) like I did last September cos I'd not trained enough. I'll find some way of charting my progress, so that you know that I'm doing it, and hopefully the GNR will be the last 13.1 miles I need to do to reach my 262 mile target. If I can't prove to you that I've done the training, then I'll match your sponsorship - how does that sound?
Cheers for reading, and for your dosh, on behalf of Adam and his family.
Andy
