Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Members of Falkirk Churches are walking in aid of Christian Aid and SCIAF from Lock 16 on the Forth and Clyde Canal, past the FALKIRK WHEEL to Falkirk High Station and back - on Saturday 27th August. This year every penny donated goes to help SCIAF and Christian Aid relieve famine in the Horn of Africa - Somalia and Ethiopia. The money you donate will help SCIAF to save lives!

Successive years of poor rainfall have caused a devastating drought in the region, leaving many rural communities unable to grow crops or feed their animals. Millions of people have been forced from their homes by hunger and many more face an uncertain future.

Using our Ethiopia Joint Office as a base, SCIAF is working with sister agencies CAFOD and Trocaire to get emergency aid to the worst affected communities in the drought-hit Borena region. We are also working with organisations on the ground in the Turkana region of Northern Kenya and in South Central Somalia (because the situation in Somalia is quite sensitive we aren’t able to say much about this I’m afraid).

The money you donate will be used in a number of ways:

  • Providing food, water, medicines, sanitation and temporary shelters for people who have been forced from their homes by hunger
  • Supplying seeds and animal feed so that people do not lose their livelihoods
  • Funding cash-for-work programmes, like building and restoring wells. This not only helps communities to protect themselves from drought in the future, it also enables people to earn enough money to buy food for their families
  • Your donations will also help people to get back on their feet and take steps to protect themselves from future disasters.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
