Story
I dislike running - it hurts my knees, it hurts my legs and it's dull.
However, I have joined the Quilter Financial Planning commitment to raise £100,000 during 2019 for the Quilter Foundation to support young carers.
I'm not doing this because I enjoy running and so I'm going to make it as hard as possible. This is my first race since my school days nearly 30 years ago and I will have done a total of six week's training by the time of the race. Despite this lack of preparation or fitness I am aiming for a time below 50 minutes.
The Quilter Foundation
The Quilter Foundation supports the many thousands of young people in our communities who live with daily social and domestic challenges, helping them to overcome barriers to prosperity by building partnerships that improve educational outcomes, employment prospects and individual health and wellbeing.
Funds raised will be donated to our principal partner for the next 3 years - Carers Trust - to provide immediate relief and personal development opportunities for young carers aged 16 - 25. There are an estimated 700,000 young carers in the UK looking after loved ones with disabilities, long-term illnesses, mental health issues or addiction problems. Because of their caring duties, young carers often feel anxious, isolated and depressed. Working in partnership with Carers Trust, our campaign will give young carers the chance of a brighter future.
