Llanberis MRT is one of the busiest in the UK with an annual callout rate of over 220 incidents. Based in and around the Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) area the team is made up of about 50 volunteers who are all experienced mountaineers. As a registered charity we rely entirely on your donations.

Story

My name is Andy and I would like to thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In June 2012 I will be attempting to Traverse The Black Cuillin Ridge. This attempt will be for a number of Charities. This page is for the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team.

70 Million years ago a volcano erupted on what is now the Isle of Skye. Subsequent weathering and erosion has left the Cuillins. A continuous ridges of over 30 summits in a continuous chain stretching over 12km. This is the Cuillin traverse, possibly one of the best and longest rock-climbing routes in Europe. The main ridge has 11 Munros (Mountains over 3000' or 914m), over 3000 meters of ascent, technical rock climbing up to Very Difficult and the only Munro where rock climbing is required to reach the summit, Sgurr Dearg - The Inaccessible Pinnacle (or the In Pinn). Making matters worse is the lack of water on the ridge.

My challenge is in two parts. The first is to complete the ridge from Sgurr nan Gilliean to Sgurr nan Eag over two days. This will mean bivving on the ridge. If that is not enough I have a second challenge - to get myself physically fit enough to complete it. Those that know me will, no doubt jest, that there will be an addition summit along the ridge when I attempt it; lets just say that I am a tad over-weight, have couple of prolapsed disk and some knees that have seen better days.

So why do it. While I have never needed mountain rescue I have seen plenty of people carried off mountains by them. They are there day in day out, putting themselves at risk so that people can enjoy the mountains. Time for me to help them do this by raising much need cash for equipment etc.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
