Story
Hiya, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Update....Hoorah!!!! Made it....what a fantastic and completely exhausting experience!! Summit climb was brutal, but truly amazing , standing on the roof of Africa as the sun came up. Quite a few headaches, and felt a little 'doolally' at the top, but well worth the blood, sweat and tears....literally!
Thanks so much to everyone who put their hand in their pocket. You all helped to raise a staggering total approaching £170,000 for an extremely worthwhile cause. Well done to you all!! Back to doing very little for a bit now....!!!
As many of you are aware, I'm an inherently lazy bloke who's rapidly hurtling towards middle-age. I usually drive to the local newsagents, and can only be coerced into walking if there's a pub at the end, or I have a golf club in my hand, and there are no buggies available! However, this is about to change as I've committed to trekking up Kilimanjaro, the highest trekkable point in the world. Oh, blimey!!!!
It's gonna be tough, physically and mentally, and there's no guarantee of success; altitude sickness has scuppered the plans of people considerably fitter than I.
Obviously, this is a mid-life crisis, but the main reason for this venture is to raise funds for the marvellous work undertaken by SCOPE. An organisation that has changed the lives of thousands of cerebral palsy sufferers, both children and adults, in this country. The aim is to raise money, to change lives, by funding a whole range of services for disabled people, their families and carers.
This is a charity I particularly empathise with, having worked in this environment for the past 13 years. So please dig deep, all donations are extrmely valuable, and very gratefully received. Thank you so much in anticipation of your support....
Thanks..
Andy
Update 25.7; Training going well, in between bouts of shingles and a torn catilage. Struggling on through the pain barrier!!! What a martyr...
Circuit training, weights and lots of hiking! Lost three quarters of a stone. Been up and down Snowden more times than I care to recall, and sick of the sight of Kinder National Park.
Next years challenge will involve sitting down and lager!!
