Story
As many of you know, I will be travelling
to Morocco on 1 April to participate in the 25th Marathon des Sables. This will
involve running 155 miles through the Sahara over 7 days, carrying all my gear
and with temperatures probably into the 40°Cs.
Why Egmont? I spent 5 weeks in Cape Town when I was 23, working in a paediatric ward at the now-defunct Conradie Hospital. Most of the kids there had HIV. It made quite an impression on me. The Egmont Trust is a charitable organisation that channels donations to grassroots HIV charities in sub-Saharan Africa. Egmont works in a way that I think is quite cool - it funds lots of small, locally-run charities that probably slip through the net of larger charitable organisations and all costs are covered by its trustees, so donations all go directly to the supported projects.
Given the magnitude of the task in hand, I’m hoping for loads of sponsorship (fyi I am funding the cost of the event myself). I have decided to run on behalf of three organisations, which mean a great deal to me. This page gives details of how to give to the Egmont Trust - if you'd prefer the Dom Pardey Trust or the Parkinson's Disease Society pages, click on this link.
