My story

In the first week of August 2011, I will be heading out to complete the West Highland Way in order to raise funds for the Kilbryde Hospice Appeal.

The Kilbryde Hospice Appeal started in 2001, after our founder, the late Tony McGuinness, recognised the lack of hospice facilities in the South Lanarkshire area.  Over the last 10 years the appeal has been building funds to establish a new hospice in the grounds of Hairmyres Hospital, while having also introduced a Day Hospice within the Red Deer Centre in East Kilbride.  Kilbryde Hospice is now preparing for a big increase in activities, as the ground at Hairmyres has been agreed and the move towards starting the build begins.

Now that we are moving into this second phase of development, progressing from a charity appeal raising money for the construction of a hospice building, to an organisation that will be responsible for the provision of palliative care services from a new hospice in South Lanarkshire, we will be stepping up our fundraising activities to provide this increased level of free palliative care.

Our fundraising activities currently include two retail shops within the East Kilbride Shopping Centre, a series of annual events and a tremendous amount of community fundraising by our dedicated volunteers, along with the residents and businesses within South Lanarkshire.  Kilbryde Hospice also hold a monthly lottery with the ‘Lucky 500 Club’ and are preparing to launch a major Direct Debit and Payroll Giving campaign to help achieve the increased funds required to deliver additional palliative care services.  For more information please visit our website at www.kilbrydehospice.org.uk and follow us on facebook and twitter.
