Myself and Laura are going to be driving from Land's End to John o Groats in my Driving School Car over the weekend of Saturday 20th March to Sunday 21st March 2010.
Why are we doing this, you ask ?.
Well we are doing it in memory of Laura's mum, Patricia Lewis, and to raise funds for the wonderful "Willow Wood Hospice" in Tameside.
Many of you will be aware of Patricia's illness that she endured over the years, but her outlook on life and for the future was always positive and bright.
But, sadly Patricia's illness finally got one better of her late in 2008. Her Daughter's, Helen, Emma and Laura did a wonderful job of providing the very best care for their mum that they could manage on their own.
In January 2009 a bed was available at "Willow Wood Hospice" in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside. So, to make things more comfortable for her she moved into there.
Patricia had previously spent some time at the Hospice as a day visitor, and had always enjoyed her trips there.
The staff are the most wondrous people you would ever meet. From the Ladies on Reception, the staff in the Kitchen and Restaurant to the Nurses and Sister Collette. Nothing is too much trouble, and the warmth, compassion and care they gave to Patricia and her family will never be forgotten.
So, this little trip and the money that we hope to raise will go a small way in showing our thanks and appreciation to everyone there.
We are going to be joined on our trip by several other Driving School's, who will be raising fund's for their own chosen charity's. We hope that there maybe up to 8-10 other Car's coming along, even as far afield as Ireland. so it will be a pretty long convoy.
We are also very pleased that we have managed to gain a major sponsor for our trip, who will be helping out with all the major costs of fuel and accommodation.
So, a big thank you to Tina Janson-Caddel at ADINDI for her wonderful and generous offer of help. You can see what ADINDI have to offer at there website here : http://www.adindi.co.uk/
