My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On July 14 2012, we are cycling Act 2 of the Tour de France. A route over 200km (around 130 miles!) with an ascent of over 15,000 feet and 4 main climbs – this is going to be a really tough challenge for us both! We are already training hard, but you could make it easier for us by making an online donation towards our challenge, so that when we’re cycling up those hills we’ve got something to work towards.
We’re raising money for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Mending Broken Hearts Appeal. This appeal is one of the BHF’s most ambitious projects ever. And the goal is simple – to fund the research that could literally ‘mend broken hearts’. The BHF need to spend £50 million on research to repair damaged hearts. With your support, they could be funding trials with heart failure patients in as little as ten years’ time.
We want to raise £25 for every kilometre we cycle, which is why we’ve set ourselves an ambitious target of £5,000!
Please donate towards our challenge. To give an example of the impact your donations could have, if we raise £5,000 we could help fund the equipment which BHF scientists need for a month in their efforts to grow new blood vessels – a vital part of any future therapy to regenerate a damaged heart.
Andy’s research is currently funded by the BHF which is why we have chosen to support the BHF through this challenge. To find out more about Andy’s work at the British Heart Foundation please follow this link: http://www.bhf.org.uk/default.aspx?page=13610; and for information on his latest grant and what research this will fund please follow: http://www.bhf.org.uk/media/news-from-the-bhf/heart-bypass-gene-therapy.aspx.
Thanks for your support, Andy and Keith
My updates 10
Dear Friends, it was very cold and wet on the Cols and dangerous on the descents. We both made it safe and sound and great fun. Thank you all for your generous donations. Full information on http://www.asochallenge.com/ bib no 7094 (Andy), 7095 (Keith). thanks all! Andy & Keith
We did the Trossach's Ton on sunday and unfortunately were savaged by highland midges. Unbelievable. Terrible bites on both pairs of legs! Should have used Skin-so-soft!
Dear All, we went on a wee trip the Pyrenees last weekend. Friday was a washout, sat excellent and did 4 climbs and 160k distance with 4500 metres ascent. Dont ask Keith about his bike or what his wife did to it before he left the house!
Did Col du Tourmalet on Keith's TT this pm, good going but his poor garage is now a bit sweaty. Training gooing ok - we are both content with progress. Mush to do though. Thanks for all the donations so far. Andy and Keith
Saturday (5th May) we did the Drumlanrig Castle 100 mile sportive. Fabulous route and conditions, cold but dry and little wind. I would recommend this one to cyclists - great route and very few cars.
