This page has been set up by friends of Andy Horton to raise money in his memory of his life, cut tragically short by illness July 17th 2010. (This is the official Dartford Road Runners club page to make donations in his memory.)
Andy was a popular member of Dartford Road Runners and Whiteoak Triathlon clubs. He took insipiration and help from his friends at these clubs for his many athletic achievements; and paid it back tenfold befriending, helping, and inspiring others in their own endeavours, and by adding so much good humour and fun to our lives. He is very sadly missed by all who knew him.
Of course, it is well known that Andy's achievements culminated last year in completion of the Austria Ironman event. 2.4mile swim, 112mile bike, 26.2 mile run; in 15hrs 42mins 57secs.
More information will be available shortly on how we are going to further commemorate Andy's life, and we hope to involve his close family in this also. We have had many excellent ideas from club members, and whilst we cannot sensibly use all of them, everything will be considered, and we will be making announcements soon.
In the meantime we have selected the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust as our official charity. A key area of their work is to provide sporting opportunity for disadvantaged young people, which we hope you agree is an appropriate choice. Andy leaves behind 2 daughters, Ashleigh 16, Olivia 12.
