My story

After a bit of a break I thought it best to let you all know that we did it!

Yes it took us 40 hours of riding over 4 days. We were all a bit sore, but at 8pm on the 26th August we crossed the finish line at Roker pier in Sunderland. It was an emotional time, with us all jumping in the water, posing for some photos and doing a couple of TV interviews. There are a coupld of full write ups about. A month on, I still havn't finished mine but the first two days are on my blog now at http://andythegeek.com/

Donations are still open so please feel free to give what you can :)

Did I hear you right 160 miles on a unicycle??

That's right, Myself and several others are planning to unicycle from St Bees Head in Cumbria to in . This is a 160 Mile trip that we will be completing over 5 days at around 35 miles per day. Set to be a big challenge as prior to starting training I had never gone more than about 2 miles on a unicycle and about 20 on a bicycle!

I was on BBC's look north programme recently check it out here
http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/sheffield/hi/people_and_places/nature/newsid_8741000/8741963.stm

A bit of history about me; I started unicycling when I first went to university at 21 (I'm 25 now). We first started off with standard riding and eventually moved into trials. We called ourselves OWE (one wheels enough) and made a few vids.

OWE Video 2

Since these days I have continued unicycling and ended up joining the unicycle hockey team in . We weren't the best in the league suffering from a bad playing surface and a lack of players. In the one tournament I competed in we finished joint last (with a team made up of kids...). Despite this we really enjoyed our time and loved playing, meeting up at a local park every week.

Just under a year ago I broke my ankle whilst playing unicycle hockey. Thinking back, I have jumped off 5ft walls, cycled down 50 steps and done other really silly things, then I go and loose my balance step off awkwardly and trap my foot on the pedal!

I currently work for Virgin Media Business in the sales department. Needless to say unicycling turns a few heads and draws plenty of comments from my colleagues!

Since then the unicycle hockey team has kind of fallen apart and hasn't practised in a few months now. I had just started getting back on my unicycle and getting back into it when I received an email from a guy called Jerry saying he was looking to do a charity cycle at the end of august, so jumped (maybe hopped) at the chance.
