Story
"I've run 'em, I've run 'em all!"
With the words of my comic book hero Alf Tupper I crossed the line to finish the 2010 London Marathon!
From the official results board:
Usher, Andy (GBR) 42487 Place Overall 5828 Place Gender 5003 Place Category (45-49) 753 Time Half 1:47:30 Time Overall 03:38:33Suffice to say it was a great day, the weather was good and the atmosphere amazing, the support of everyone on the route was unbelievable.
It was also fantastic having Karen and the kids in London cheering me on, we managed to catch up at two points on the run (miles 12 and 25) and at the end. Wonderful.
I would like to say a big thanks to all who've supported me throughout the event and lead up to it, the generous donations to Meningitis UK and the practical help over the weekend. My sister Carol deserves a special mention for her efforts as my self-appointed PR agent for her shameless abuse of friends and contacts to get me a mention on the BBC and an inclusion on the QPR website! What a girl!
Great to hear from some long lost friends; Archie and Karen from down-under, Allen Saltmarsh from school, Terry Tippell of Heston Casuals days, Ian and Sally Smith from early RM days at 42 Commando and also other long-suffering QPR fans who don't know me from Adam but stepped up anyway! Champions next season fellas, or what?
Roll on next year!
Andy

Ignore the photos - I've been air-brushed to look really old and knackered! My wig's on backwards as well!
Stop Press: Update 22 Apr 2010
Raring to go now, trying to stay off the beer and carb loading to the max! What do you mean it's a bit early? At this rate I'll have to be rolled round the streets of the capital! Thanks to all sponsors for your support - I really appreciate it and please keep those very witty comments coming! A big thanks to Jobi McAnuff of Reading FC and Mikele Leigertwood and the rest of the "real hoops" - QPR, for your support - my little sister's very persuasive I'm afraid! Cheers guys! You R's!
Stop Press: Update 18 Apr 2010
Completed my last 'long run' of 18 Miles this weekend in a credible 2:20 and going to take it easy this week as we run down to the big event. Really looking forward to it now and can't wait to get going - that's if I can ever get off Jersey where I'm stuck at present!
Stop Press; Training Update 25 Mar 2010
Completed the planned 18 miler yesterday, time was 2:25, so I'm happy that training is on track. What I'm not happy about is I'm stiff as a board and my knees are killing me! 'Man up Ush' I hear you all call!
Training Update 21 Mar 2010
A good week this week with plenty of miles under the trainers - longest being 16 miler at 2:05. Also competed in Sport Relief 6 Mile Race at Penzance with a time of 39:15 - not bad for an old timer! Interviewed by BBC Cornwall at finish line whilst breathing out of rear end and wishing I hadn't had 6 pints of London Pride and a curry watching the rugby the night before! Alf Tupper would be proud!
Looking to crack an 18 miler or 2:30 this week - without the curry!
Training Update 14 Mar 2010
Training's progressing very nicely - can now manage a full portion of Cod, Chips & Mushy Peas without completely seizing up and flaking out for the rest of the day! Happy with that. Also been doing some running.
Next update 21 Mar 2010 - hope to have added a Saveloy or Sausage in Batter by then. Wish me luck!
Andy.
