Story
In 2010 I suffered severe injury to my neck caused by playing Rugby; I had no knowledge of it directly after the event and thought I had pulled a muscle or similar. I then flew to Mexico with work where I carried on as normal for almost 4 weeks till I slowly lost the use of my right arm and had pins and needles down it that was unbearable. I sought medical advice and discovered that I had broken my neck at C4/5 and was immediately flown home. The next day after further checks in London it was decided I required immediate surgery to repair a fractured Vertebra and replace 2 discs that were severing the C6 & C7 nerve root. This was conducted by a very skilled surgeon Sanj Bassi at Harley Street, London and from which I have made an almost full recovery and live a normal life. I will never forget however just how close I came to having all this taken away from me. During my recovery I read about Matt Hampson and was inspired at his courage, then once I read "Engage" his book this encouraged me to get of my arse and do something to help.
Since we took on The Matt Hampson Foundation as our chosen charity the Rugby club has raised over £3,100 towards the charity with lots of events planned in the future to raise more.
Please help us provide help, advice and financial support for young people seriously injured through sport.
