I'm happy to report that I successfully completed the London Marathon in a time of 4:12:27 - not as fast as I was hoping but I did it!!
I'll be running the London Marathon for the first time on 17th April 2011. It will be the second full Marathon that I have run. My first Marathon was Dublin 2009 when I also raised money for The Brooke. I completed Dublin in just over 4.5 hours (that's me in the photo opposite, crossing the finishing line!) but I am aiming to complete London in under 4 hours. This is quite a challenge but I am training hard and will of course do my best to succeed.
My 4 hours of "self-inflicted suffering" will be nothing compared to that which the thousands of donkeys toiling in the harsh and brutal brick-kilns and quarries in the Middle-East and Asia have to endure for 16-18 hours per day, every day of their short lives. Remembering this helps me put things into perspective and when I think I'm tired after running a few miles it gives me the motivation to keep going, knowing that every mile I complete will help raise funds to provide the much needed veterinary and respite care for these donkeys.
