Story

I DID IT! I still can't quite believe it and the last 2km were a killer but all done now! Thanks to everyone who donated - it makes such a difference. Xx

On Sunday 26th May 2013 I am going to run 10k.

There - I've said it so I'll have to do it now.  Those of you who know me realise that this will be a great challenge for me - I've hardly got the physique of Jessica Ennis (yet!).

I'm running to raise funds for the Stroke Unit at Manchester Royal Infirmary (I work for the charity that includes the MRI amongst others).

The reason I'm running for the Stroke Unit is because, following my father, Eon Rowe's severe stroke nearly two years ago,  I've seen first hand how very, very vital the correct care is needed in the immediate stages following a stroke.  And then equally vital is rehabilitation - my dad was left paralysed down his right hand side and lost his speech.  Thanks to wonderful physio, he can now walk and talk, abeit not as well as prior to the stroke, but it has made an enormous difference to my dad and us, his family.

So the inspiration for this really is my dad.  May, when the 10k takes place, is also Stroke Awaremess month. My dad is going to attempt to walk one mile in one go during May.  For him, walking one mile will be harder than me doing a marathon, so the very least I can do is 10k.  Training for the run will also get me fitter and hopefully lose some weight, which will lessen my risk of a stroke in later life as well.

I know times are hard, I know people get bombarded for sponsorship from a lot of really good causes, but anything you can donate will inspire me to keep going and make such a difference to stroke patients, their familes and their futures.  Thank you.
