Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you know my life was turned upside down at the age of 39 when in March 2011 I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggresive Kidney Cancer (Collected Duct). I subsequently had major surgery to remove my kidney and the tumour, for 6 months I was cancer free but unfortunately the cancer returned and as a result I will undergo chemotherapy treatment for the rest of my life. My prognosis is not good, however im a very positive person who will fight this all the way and will set myself goals and challenges to see me through this. I also have 2 young girls who I adore and want to spend as much time as I can with them. There are many wonderful charities out there who do amazing work to help and support people affected by cancer, but I have chosen do this walk in support of the Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow. I regularly attend the Beatson Oncology Centre and continue to receive amazing care, support and encouragment from the wonderful team of oncologists, nurses and staff there. I have chosen to support the Beatson on this occasion, not just because of my own personal experiences with them, but because of the incredible world leading research into kidney cancer and other types of cancers that they do there. The Beatson is also the 2nd largest Cancer Centre in the UK.
When I was diagnosed last year I had been training for a half marathon and thought I was very fit and healthy, however overnight I became very ill and I mean overnight. My illness put paid to my training (temporarily) but not my determination to push myself physically, mentally and emotinally - as a result I persuaded my running partner and good friend 'Julie Cairney' to do the West Highland Way with me, 95 miles along the wooded banks of Loch Lomond, across the wilderness of Rannoch Moor, over the mountains of Glencoe to a dramatic finish at the foot of Ben Nevis - Britains highest mountain.
We start our journey on the 5th May and aim to do it in 6 days, Im very much looking forward to doing this challenge and hey you never know I may get that half marathon done one day.
I do hope that you will support us in our endeavour in whatever way you can.
I am very blessed and lucky to have amazing friends and family who have helped me over the last year and I also know that there is a lot of people who I dont speak to often or see but im always in their thoughts and prayers, and on that I say A BIG THANK YOU AND LOVE TO ALL. X
