The 11 years of work done by the Kenyan Orphan Project (KOP) has changed many people’s lives in Kenya, and still is. KOP's vision is: 

‘A world where all children thrive through health and education.’ 

How many of us in the UK take these essential things for granted? Many people in Kenya still live without basic facilities such as hospitals and schools. The project sends a cohort of students to Kenya each year, who get involved with the building of these essential amenities. As well as this, the project provides hundreds of locals in Kisumu with nutritious meals, and teaches basic education to children.KOP’s work does not stop here. A special aspect of the project is the fact it takes a very holistic approach, by organising many activities such as sports for the children. This ensures the locals’ lives are well rounded. It also allows for the students from the UK to build close relationships with the children in Kenya, by exchanging cultures. Other activities include learning Kisumu’s local dance, which is very entertaining for both us and them! As I have already briefly mentioned, not only does KOP benefit those in Africa, but also young people like me in the UK. Through the project, we feel inspired and encouraged to make a difference to those who are less fortunate. The time spent in Kenya is a truly life-changing and fulfilling experience. We are able to actively get involved with activities, and witness how the project benefits society first-hand.
