The Stroke Association - The Great Xscape · 17 July 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It was a rather spooky coincedence that not long after my Dad suffered a stroke, the Stroke Association contacted where I work, to see if anyone would be interested in raising money for them by doing a zip wire ride/fall, what ever you want to call it.

Now I am TERRIFIED of heights! to the point in some department stores, I have to use the lift, I can't use the escalators, how bad it that. Speed dont worry me at all, I ride a sports Motorcycle and used to race quads, but they dont go up in the air.

So as you can see, this is going to be a major issue for me, but its also my way of giving something back.  Dad is now back home and making a slow but steady recovery.  He is 84 so no spring chicken but is again managing to cook, clean and care for himself, something in the early days after the stroke, I honestly didnt think he would ever be capable of doing again.

He still gets muddled up, the microwave is always the worst offender for that! but I have my Dad back, a bit frailer than before but we are now out of the woods.

The last thing either of us thought was that when he went into hospital for a routine operation on his knee, he would also have a stroke.  He dos'nt remember anything about the first couple of weeks afterwards and perhaps thats for the best, me having to feed him, him not even knowing who I was or where he was.

So there you have it, one person with terrible vertigo ready to chuck herself out of a window hanging on to a wire that should take me down to the ground.

Wish me luck and PLEASE PLEASE, donate as much as you can.  OH and think of me when I get to that window to step out of it! as I'm going to be petrified!
