The Pathfinder March · 22 June 2013

Nordoff and Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice. Through the power of music, it breaks through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation. The charity does this through providing music therapy to people across the UK, whilst also training the music therapists of the future and funding research to measure and improve the impact of its work.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Anyone who knows me will know that music is a big part of my life!   I started to learn saxophone 6 years ago and have just loved it.  Everyone in the house either plays and/or listens and we cover a huge range of music between us...........!!  So the work of Nordoff Robbins is something close to home in as much that I understand 'music transforming lives' and I know my family's life would be very different if music wasn't in it.

So, The Pathfinder March.  The March is a 46 mile (yes, 46 - try not to think about it!!)  walk around the main bases of the WW2 Pathfinder Force - RAF Wyton, RAF Gravely, RAF Oakington and RAF Warboys in Cambridgeshire, in memory of the WWII Pathfinder force, which was formed in 1942.    The March supports SSAFA but walkers who chose to look for sponsorship do so from a range of charities.   My target, you've probably realised, works out to £10 per mile!

Again, if you know me, you'll know there is a link for me between music and the RAF.   I played for the Voluntary Band at RAF Wyton for over 4 years and we played at dinners where some of the original Pathfinders were guests and spoke of their experiences.   What experiences and what heroes they were!

And why now?   Well, each year rather than new year's resolutions, I have a list of things to achieve by the end of the year.   This year the list includes taking part in the Pathfinder March and taking my grade 8  sax exam.   Walking 46 miles will be a doddle compared to playing scales in front of a stranger!!

That is enough waffle - if you feel able to sponsor me and help bring music to vulnerable people, anything you can give will be very welcome and may just be what gets my legs over those final stiles towards the end of the course!!!   Thank you :)
